Sewing Classes for kids & teens
Welcome to the Common Thread Claremont!
Exciting news for young creatives aged 8-17! Join our sewing classes at Common Thread, where all skill levels are welcome, and no experience is needed. We specialize in teaching young people the craft of sewing. Our weekly classes run from January to May and September to December.
We provide a nurturing environment for kids to explore the world of sewing. New students will start with three beginner projects designed to build their skills progressively. With each project, they’ll learn new techniques and gain confidence in their sewing abilities. Intermediate to advanced students can choose from our project library and explore new projects introduced monthly. We believe students are more engaged when they have a choice in what they are creating.

SEWING MACHINES, SUPPLIES, AND MATERIALS ARE INCLUDED
Project No. 1
Start your sewing journey with our reversible tote bag project! In this beginner-friendly class, students will select their own fabrics, learn how to transfer a pattern, pin and cut fabric with precision, and practice straight seams on our sewing machines. Most students can finish Project No. 1 in just two classes.
Project No. 2
Who doesn't need a zipper bag? Sewing in a zipper might seem like an advanced skill, but at Common Thread, we break it down step by step, making projects easy to follow and fun to create.
Project No. 3
Our final project in the beginner series is all about creating clothing. You can choose to make a simple pair of pants, shorts, or a top. Learning to measure yourself is a crucial step in this project, and we’ll guide you in selecting the right size and fabric. As you work on this project, you’ll practice essential skills like sewing curves, working with different seam allowances, and fitting your finished garment.
